FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round
Tuesday 8th September 2009
Hadleigh United Youth 2, Great Yarmouth Town Youth 5
The under 18's got over the disappointing defeat to Dereham in the best possible fashion with a morale boosting victory away to Hadleigh United in the FA Youth Cup. The Bloaters didn't have it all their own way and found themselves a goal down on two occasions, before Lee Roscoe and two quality strikes from Jack Deeley sent them into the half time break 3-2 up. The Hadleigh goals really came out of nothing and were totally against the run of play but when Yarmouth got their noses in front their was only going to be one winner.
The second half was one way traffic and further goals from Ross Catchpole and another from Roscoe made the final score 5-2. The only surprise was that
Simeon Lee returned to the defence and didn't put a foot wrong. Lee could have even found himself on the score sheet but his trademark speculative long range effort cracked the crossbar. Roscoe and Catchpole bossed the midfield while Adam Blanch up front was a constant threat and had a hand in most of the goals. Joaquim Sisse made his first start of the season and he posed all sorts of problems for Hadleigh with an array of mesmerising runs.
Joint Manager Mark Scales commented: "After the Dereham defeat it was important to get back to winning ways. The performance was also pleasing as it was chalk and cheese from the other night and the determination and will to win was there in abundance."
