Wroxham Youth 1, Bloaters Youth 3
Yarmouth were up against the League Cup holders Wroxham in the first round of this season’s tournament at Trafford Park and came away with a good 3-1 victory. The first half didn't bring a goal or one of Yarmouth's better performances and despite a few half chances and Lee Roscoe's free kick that thumped the bar the Bloaters had to thank keeper Chris Bird, who pulled off a couple of tremendous saves, to go in at the break all square at 0-0.
The second half saw a different Yarmouth and despite going one down to midfielder Jack Hubbard's strike following up his own speculative shot that came back off the bar, the Bloaters were soon back in it and in control. First it was ex-Wroxham player Jack Deeley who found himself free at the back post to header in a Ross Catchpole corner. Then, Bloaters were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Wroxham box, Catchpole sent in another great delivery and Simeon Lee was on hand to volley in.
The best was left to last and with five minutes remaining Adam Blanch chased down what seemed to be a lost cause, and with his pace putting the Wroxham defender under all sorts of pressure, Blanch stole the ball from the feet of his opponent and proceeded to the by-line before pulling back a fantastic pass to Lee whose finish left the keeper with no chance.
