Young Yachtsmen all at sea as Bloaters take command

Thursday 15th October 2009

Wroxham Youth 3, Great Yarmouth Youth 8

The Bloaters put in a confidence-boosting performance at Trafford Park and came away with a comfortable 8-3 victory. The midfield trio of Lee Roscoe, Ross Catchpole and Jacob Maitland put in accomplished performances in the centre of midfield in what was a very good team performance.

It didn't take long for the Bloaters to go ahead as after only five minutes the hard working Adam Blanch headed in a Roscoe shot. Joaquim Sisse added a second on 15 minutes: after being put through one on one with the keeper, he duly dispatched an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. Wroxham's reply was immediate: Jake Sharpe was unlucky as he pulled off a fantastic save from the first shot but the rebound fell to the Wroxham striker to tap in. Roscoe then scored a speculative individual goal after 25 minutes, beating a couple of players in the box before the shot curled away from the keeper giving him no chance.

Joshua Trett then got on the score sheet, firing in from another good Catchpole corner. Sisse then scored his second and Yarmouth's fifth on the stroke of half time, this time rounding the keeper, again after good work from Roscoe. There was still time for another goal before the break and it was Wroxham who got it, the forward placing the ball past Sharpe after being put through one on one with the ‘keeper.

Trett scored his second on 55 minutes, rounding the keeper to finish coolly. Debutant, and new signing from Lowestoft Town, Danny Burgess then made an immediate impact after coming on and produced a lovely cross from the left, basically 'putting it on a plate', for Roscoe to head in.

Wroxham then got their third after the striker was put through with what can only be described as the pass of the evening, the only trouble was that the pass was a miscued one from a Yarmouth player. With the game coming to a close Roscoe then completed a deserved hat-trick after scoring another header from another great Burgess cross. This time it wasn't an easy finish but Roscoe leapt tremendously and placed his header across the keeper into the corner the ball came from.

The man of the match award was shared by Roscoe and Catchpole, but special praise also has to go to the younger members of the squad Liam Baker and Danny Burgess whose performances showed what assets they can be for the club. Joint manager Mark Scales said: "After the poor performance we put in against Norwich United, it was important to get the win. The way we played showed how good we can be on our day and we can hopefully go on from here and put a run of positive results together".

Team - Sharpe, Short, Bari, Lee, Pullin, Maitland, Roscoe, Catchpole, Sisse, Trett, Blanch. Subs: Harvey, Burgess, Baker.
