BLOATERS RESERVES 6, STOWMARKET TOWN RESERVES 2

Report by Andy Deeley (Assistant Manager)

The squad featured Danny Burgess, just turned 16 in September who recently signed from Lowestoft. He replaced Jack Deeley after about 15 minutes (knee injury) and had a very solid game for a boy who’s only just turned 16. We are really pleased with him.

Yarmouth started with the wind at their backs and Stowmarket were very much up against it as Yarmouth dictated play. Liam Bartley was superb: a new job meant he could not travel with the first team, but he stepped into the reserves and did a fine job, with a brilliant performance. Bartley set up first goal up when he beat a player in middle of park, saw the ‘keeper off his line and went to lob him from about 40 yards; the ball hit the bar and bounced down to Lewis Greening who put it in.

It became 2-0 when with free kick from a back pass, George Brooks scored directly. Burgess then scored a third goal heading home from a Brooks floated corner. Greening made it four with his second of the match and his tenth of the season, a great shot from outside the area into the top right hand corner. Stowmarket made it 4-1 just before half-time, from Yarmouth’s point of view it was a sloppy goal from a short back pass which fell too short.

Simeon Lee went on at half time for Ross Catchpole (who had to go to work). Yarmouth remained solid at the back as Stowmarket tried to get back into the game. Then we went 5-1 up through Bartley who won the ball in midfield, set off for goal, played a 1-2 with Johnny Watt and slotted past the keeper: what a goal!

Bartley also scored sixth similarly with the shot from inside area beating the ‘keeper and finding the top corner. Stowmarket pulled one back late on.

It’s been a great start but the next few games against the top teams will show us how we are really doing: in the next few weeks we have Gorleston, Walsham Le Willows, Dereham, and Norwich United.  There has been a fantastic response from all the boys, we have good team spirit, and we’re all enjoying it. There are good facilities and pitches every week, and the first team boys are quite happy to come into the reserves because you are assured of decent pitches and a fairly consistent level of opposition. Also, the young lads’ summer jobs are finishing so we will now have a nice dilemma as to who to pick each week!

Team - Lowthorpe, Miller, Watt, Barnes, Short, Catchpole, Brooks, Nino, Greening, Bartley, Deeley. Subs: Ward, Burgess, Lee.
