Dereham Town Reserves 3, Bloaters Reserves 1
With a very young team, Yarmouth put up a tremendous performance but were up against a Dereham team containing a number of players who have had regular first team experience. “We couldn’t have asked more of them,” said assistant manager Andy Deeley.
Yarmouth in fact took the lead in the first half when Liam Bartley put the ball in the back of the net after the ‘keeper had parried a Lewis Greening shot. Bartley had an “exceptional” game according to Deeley. Unfortunately the more experienced Dereham side scored twice before the break to take the lead themselves.
After the break, Yarmouth got back on top and should have equalised but the referee incorrectly disallowed a goal on the say of the home assistant though afterwards he realised his mistake and apologised to the Yarmouth camp. But the damage had been done and while Yarmouth were rueing their luck Jake Sharp in goal had to pull of a couple of excellent saves.
At the end, Bartley saw what looked like a goal-bound shot rebound off a post only to be cleared upfield for the home side to score a third and thus clinch the match.
New signing Jordan Davies had to be subbed after only 20 minutes with an injury.
Team – J Sharp, J Watt, S Watts, D Barnes, C Bari, C McAra, G Brooks, J Davies, L Greening, L Bartley, J Deeley. Subs: D Burgess (for McAra 70), J Miller (for Davies 20).
