Bloaters' Determination

  Saturday 23rd January

Bloaters 3, Norwich United 2

An amazing goal by Jamie Miller celebrated the Reserves return to action after several weeks lay-off due to the weather; he lobbed the United ‘keeper from just inside their half, and insisted it was meant! Norwich equalised when the ball slipped from Blaine Lowthorpe’s hands with a Norwich player taking advantage.

For a spell in the second half, Norwich threatened to run away with the game and two superb saves, by Lowthorpe and Eddie Short, saved the day. Then the Bloaters rolled up their sleeves and declared they could win this. With this renewed attitude, they went on to dominate the remaining 25 minutes and scored twice more to indeed take the points.

With about four minutes to go, sub Ross Catchpole notched the equaliser, and with barely seconds remaining Lee Roscoe, also a sub, converted a Mark Thpmpson corner for the winner.

“The commitment and attitude of the lads was exceptional,” said assistant manager Andy Deeley. “Going 2-1 down really kick-started the team who felt some injustice in that position. I can’t praise them enough.

“Throughout the club the teams are doing well, and it is the co-operation between the managers that is the exciting thing here. Today, we had a large squad available and even then some others were not available, but we also have other players in mind and further signings are imminent.”

                Team: B Lowthorpe, J Miller, E Short, B Junior, D Barnes, G Brooks, L Greening, M Goulder, V Fomoso, J Deeley, M Thompson. Subs: R Catchpole, L Roscoe, A Blanch, H Silva (n/u)
